Join us for a weekend of learning, dancing, and fun with the legendary Robert Royston! Robert is a multi-talented dancer, choreographer, and producer who has won numerous titles and awards in various genres of dance, including west coast swing, country, hustle, and cabaret. He has also worked with many famous musicians and celebrities, such as Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, and Carrie Underwood, and choreographed for various shows, music videos, and movies. He is an internationally recognised emcee, judge, and instructor who teaches his Intensives on Dance Physics and Musicality all over the world. He is passionate about social dancing and making everyone feel welcome and comfortable on the dance floor. He is a member of the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame, the UCWDC Country Dance Hall of Fame, the World Swing Dance Council Hall of Fame, and the Living Legends of Dance Society.

You will also have the chance to dance with him and get feedback and tips from him during the afternoon dance. 

 

FRIDAY, 15th MARCH (at The Chrysalis Theatre, Milton Keynes)

 

6:30pm - 9:30pm: Teacher Training

In this session, you will learn how to become a better dance teacher and mentor. You will learn how to design effective lesson plans, communicate clearly with your students, give constructive feedback, and handle challenging situations. You will also learn how to market yourself as a dance professional and build your reputation in the community. 

 

SATURDAY, 16th MARCH (at The Chrysalis Theatre, Japonica Lane, Milton Keynes, MK15 9JY)

The Art & Science of WCS - Two Part Intensive

12:30pm - 2:30pm: Intensive 1 - Body Mechanics (2 Hours)

In this session, you will learn how to improve your posture, alignment, and movement quality. You will learn how to apply the principles of dynamic alignment and imagery to enhance your balance, stability, and coordination. You will also learn how to use the forces of gravity, momentum, and inertia to create more efficient and expressive movements. This session is based on Robert Royston's Intensives on Dance Physics and his knowledge of dance anatomy and biomechanics.

 

3:00pm - 6:00pm: Intensive 2 - Musicality and Connection (3 Hours)

In this session, you will learn how to listen to music and identify its structure, phrasing, and accents. You will learn how to use different rhythms, syncopations, and accents to match the music and create contrast and variety in your dancing. You will also learn how to connect with your partner and the music through various techniques of lead and follow, tension and release, and styling and expression.

 

6:00pm - 8:00pm: Dinner Break

8:00pm - 11:30pm: Saturday Evening Social Dance with Guest DJ Paul Abbott

 

 

SUNDAY, 17th MARCH (at Romeo Dance Academy, The Old Bus Station, Milton Keynes, MK9 1LR)

 

11:30pm - 2:30pm: Intensive 3 – Intermediate+ Intensive (3 Hours)

Please note you need to be WSDC Intermediate competition level or above for this Workshop

If you don't compete and you are unsure about your level, please message us!

In this session, you will learn how to take your dancing to the next level and compete at the highest level of west coast swing. You will learn how to refine your technique, timing, and musicality. You will also learn how to create and execute original choreography, improvise and adapt to different situations, and showcase your personality and creativity.

2:30pm - 3:30pm: Practice and Afternoon Social Dance

3:30pm - 6:30pm: Intensive 4 – NEW All Level Intensive (3 Hours)

But wait, there's more! As a special treat, we have added a bonus intensive on Sunday afternoon for all levels of dancers. This is your chance to learn from Robert Royston some of his favourite tips, tricks, and secrets that he has accumulated over his decades of experience in the dance world. Don't miss this opportunity to get some extra knowledge and fun from one of the most respected and sought-after instructors in the industry.

6:30pm - 8:00pm: Afternoon Social Dance

The Romeo Dance Academy is very close to Milton Keynes Central Train Station. Please note that parking is abundant nearby and just behind the venue but not free here (Approx £5 per day).
